The Strategic School Assessment
The Strategic School Assessment
Overview:
The Strategic School Assessment provides an existing school with the wisdom and insight of an experienced classical and Christian educational practitioner. The assessment covers four areas: 1) School and Objectives, 2) Governance and Administration, 3) Academics, and 4) Faculty and Instructional Resources. The end product is a report providing, among other things, recommendations in each of the above four areas. This report will be delivered to the school and explained during a follow-up conference call with the school’s board and administration.
The assessment would consist of three components:
- Pre-work: A set of requested documents is to be sent to the consultant prior to the site visit. The consultant reviews the documents and then, conducts a conference call with the board and administration to plan the site visit. Finally, the consultant prepares questions/issues to address during the site visit. This is expected to be 8-10 hours of work, billed as Day 1.
- Site-visit: The site visit allows for two full days at the school, billed as Days 2 and 3. A typical schedule might look like the following:
| Day 1 (billed as Day 2) | |
| Breakfast with Administrator | Early Morning |
| Initial Grammar School Observation | Morning |
| Meet with Grammar School Staff | Lunch |
| Initial Dialectic & Rhetoric School Observation | Afternoon |
| Review Documents | Late Afternoon |
| Meet with Administration | Late Afternoon |
| Meet with Board & Administrator | Dinner & Discussion |
| Day 2 (billed as Day 3) | |
| Follow-up Grammar School Observation | Early Morning |
| Follow-up Dialectic & Rhetoric School Observation | Late Morning |
| Meet with Dialectic & Rhetoric School Staff | Lunch |
| Time for Specific Follow-Up | Afternoon |
| Wrap-Up with Administrator | Late Afternoon |
- Report Preparation and Delivery: The consultant assimilates the information gained from the site visit into a structured report addressing each of the four school areas noted above. Any follow-up or additional requests for information will be conducted by phone. The report will provide background on the school, summarize the assessment process for this school, provide a summary assessment by area, identify specific recommendations in each of the four areas, and provide some potential steps to begin addressing the recommendations. A conference call with the board and administration in which the report will be presented and discussed concludes the assessment. This is expected to be 8-10 hours of work, billed as Day 4.
